Hugo and Sonia Luna Pelaez have spent their entire lives in the same community in Guatemala. For the past 15 years, they lived in a small home with their three sons: Christopher, 18; Wilmer, 14; and Hugo Ulises, 5. The family supports itself through farming, with the children helping their parents whenever they can.
A local pastor learned about the Luna Pelaez family through a former member of his church who had moved into their community. When the family was selected to receive a new home through Casas por Cristo, the pastor hoped the experience would show them God’s love in a personal and lasting way.
The new home has changed the family’s everyday life. Their previous house became extremely hot because of the climate, but their new home gives them more room and a much more comfortable place to live.
Sonia shared that her heart is filled with joy and gratitude. After praying for a better home for her family, she sees this blessing as an answer from God. She is thankful for everyone who helped make it possible and hopes they can continue helping other families in need.
The Luna Pelaez family has remained close to the church since receiving their home. Their pastor shared that the family continually expresses gratitude for what God has given them and that their faith has grown stronger. Their story has also helped others in the community see the difference these homes can make.
Sonia continues to pray for everyone who helped her family, and she asks that they also remember Hugo, their children, and their family’s health and well-being in their prayers.
