So, your boss tells you that there is a three-day training seminar that would put you in line for that big promotion. That’s awesome, right? Well, if you have a pet the awesome level is tempered by the anxiety of finding a place that will provide the best possible care for your pet while you are away. Last week the blog brought you some of the best veterinary services in the Huntsville area. We feel that a trustworthy pet-sitter is just as important as a trustworthy veterinarian. Below are some of the highest rated pet-sitting services in the Rocket City so whether your travel is business or pleasure, you can rest easy knowing your little loved one is being appropriately cared for.

In-Home Pet Care

Paws & Claws Pet Sitting | 256-859-7533

P&C cares for animals in Huntsville, Madison, and Hampton Cove. This service will have someone come to your home while you are away to take care of you pet so that they can remain in a familiar environment and maintain as much normalcy as possible in your absence.

Their pet sitting visits are specifically catered to each pet and last approximately 30 minutes. The price varies from $25-$33 dollars depend on the number of pets. The visits can include feeding, walks, medications, and other services for your pet. You can also request non-pet related services like mail pickup and plant care at no additional charge!

The midday visits are ideal for people, not unlike myself, with busy schedules. Whether it’s school, work, or both if you feel that your pet needs more human interaction, but you can’t always be there P&C will have someone come over to your house and interact with your dog. The rate for midday visits is $25 per visit, but a monthly contract of 3 or more visits per week lowers that to $20 dollars per visit. One thing, of which, you should be aware is that although their website has links to the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters and Pet Sitters International I could find no trace of this company on either of those websites. This is no way meant to be seen as a blatant falsehood on the part of Paws & Claws. It is merely the fact of the matter. This could be as simple as an oversight or a flaw in one of the websites. Take that, both for what it’s worth, and as you will.

Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Services | 256-690-7304

Pawsitively Purrfect Pet Services is another professional pet-sitting service that specializes in in-home care. If your pet is uncomfortable or anxious being in a kennel or being away from home then an in-home service like Pawsitively Purrfect is ideal for your pet (I know what you are thinking; that I missed a perfect opportunity to say “Pawsitively Purrfect is pawsitively purrfect for your pet” …know that I did not “miss” that opportunity.)

This company also offers services that are not necessarily overnight situations. If you don’t have time during the week to take care of you pet the way that you feel they should be cared for Pawsitively Purrfect will provide your pet with a surrogate parent to walk and feed them, as well as play with them to alleviate boredom and anxiety.

Pet Sitting:
  • Daily Visit 15min. - $15
  • Visits Daily 30min. - $30
  • Visits Daily 45min. - $45

Potty Break: 15min. - $15

Daily Pet Walk:
  • 15min. - $18
  • 30min. - $25

Vet Appointment: 1hr. - $25

Groomer Appointment: 1hr. - $25

Poop Scoop (exclusive service)15min. $35

Pawsitievely Purrfect’s policy is that additional pets are free. This is a huge selling-point to those with multiple animals. They make no mention of the NAPPS or Pet Sitters International and are not listed on either website.

Petz Sitter 256-461-7652

Available in Huntsville, Madison, Harvest, and Monrovia, Petz Sitter is an in-home pet-sitting service with a more stripped down, no-frills approach. While the other two in-home options offer free initial consultations, Petz Sitters charges $20. Don’t let that scare you off, though. This is not an arbitrary fee. They outline on their website what will take place during the meeting and seem to be very professional in their approach, which includes a home visit with your two pet-sitters (primary and backup).

The company has been in service for 10 years, and this makes sense when you see the care that they’ve put into this operation. Essentially every potential question has been anticipated and is answered on their website. As I said, their services are a bit more “bare bones”, but remain unique in their own way:

Daily Pet Visit:
  • $23 dollar per 30 min visit
  • $1 per visit for each additional pet
  • $25 single day visit
  • $5 additional fee for dog walk with visit

Overnight Service (for existing clients)$100 8:30pm - 6:00am

Pet Cam:
  • $20 set up
  • $10 per day rental
Dog Walks:
  • $23 30min. Walk (1 pet)
  • $2 added fee for additional pet (2 pet max)

Pet Taxi: $31 (1hr. within 8 mile radius of your home)

Petz Sitter is the only pet sitting service in the Huntsville area that is listed on the NAPPS website.

McCurdy Animal Hospital | 256-881-2482

If your pet doesn’t mind being away from home or you feel uncomfortable with people being in your home without you there then boarding is an option for when you must leave your pet alone. McCurdy Animal Hospital offers boarding services for day and night stays.

The hospital boards dogs, cats, pigs, etc. Essentially any animal that you can think of! Dogs are taken out and allowed to play in the yard two to four times per day. Their website advises that you bring any toys or bedding your pet needs to feel as “at home” and comfortable as possible during their stay. While at the hospital you pet will have access to an on-call doctor the entirety of their stay. It is important that your animal be up-to-date on their vaccinations before they are brought in to be boarded. This is for the safety of your pet and all of the other animals that might be in the hospital at the time of your pet’s stay.
