The TN Valley as a whole has been more aware of hockey as sport over the last year, with the Nashville Predators, making it to the Stanley Cup final. While we have been lured into hockey at the national level, we would be remiss to not acknowledge the lively, local hockey team, the Huntsville HavocThe Huntsville Havoc has been a part of the Huntsville community since its inaugural season in 2004. The team has consistently made the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) playoffs in 11 of its 13 year tenure in Huntsville. From its inception the Huntsville Havoc has exceeded the SPHL league average attendance for games and with the increased interest in hockey, this unlikely to change. So, why do more people go to Huntsville Havoc games than other SPHL teams? The Huntsville Havoc provide an exciting live hockey experience that any sports fan will appreciate

The Huntsville Havoc provides a fun, family friendly hockey experience. Every season is packed with lots of fun themed promotions that will keep your family interested in coming back for another dose of fun. This year's theme nights include a new Preds Night to celebrated the Nashville Predators amazing playoff run. Gnash the Predators mascot will join the Havoc mascots Chaos and Ruckus. Each theme night usually includes some type of free giveaway or deal on concessions. Some incentive nights give away replica jerseys, have $2 concessions, or benefit worthy charities. One of my favorite theme nights is the Window World Melissa George Night. That night the Huntsville Havoc deck out in pink, white, and blue jerseys to raise money for the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund, which raise funds for the Huntsville Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. At the end of the game, a charity auction is held where the players auction off their jersey from the game. The team does this type of an auction for different causes several times during the season. Other theme nights scheduled for this year are Super Hero Night, Star Wars Night, and Tacky Christmas Night.

While fun themed nights, do add to the excitement during the game, there is something more special about a Huntsville Havoc game. When I asked multiyear season ticket holder Lori Coats what her favorite thing about the Havoc was she immediately responded with “I enjoy the energy on the ice that the boys bring when playing for a packed house and the interaction with the fans during jersey auctions.” I can attest that the Huntsville Havoc is an energetic team that loves their fans! This energy and interaction keep Huntsville Havoc fans coming back time after time.

The 2017-2018 season kicks off with a free Meet the Team event on October 24th from 5-7PM. Their first home game will be played on November 3rd at 7PM the Von Braun Center against the Fayetteville Marksmen. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a free magnetic calendar.
