If you’re moving to the Huntsville area, perhaps you should check out the arts side of our community. A fun way for children to get involved in the arts is through The Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre.

The Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre (FPCT) was established in 1961 by local parents who wanted to provide a theatre experience for their children. And, over the years it has grown into the leading theater arts education organization in North Alabama.

FPCT attracts the highest caliber of theatre artists, technicians, and performers, and performs for 12,000 audience members every year at the Von Braun Center Playhouse. Each production requires at least 350 volunteers on and off stage for each production. Individual casts feature local talent in age appropriate roles, which often leads to families serving together multi- generationally. All auditions and volunteer recruitment are open to the public and there are no fees required for participation. The FPCT presents discounted matinee performances to 2,600 public, private, and homeschooled students from all over North Alabama every year.

Their Academy also provides 1500+ theater arts educational opportunities to students with classes ranging from early music/creative play to advanced Shakespearean acting technique, sewing, and stage makeup design.

FPCT has always focused on using live theatre and arts education to impact the lives of the children we serve. Their after-school theater program, Fantasy in the Classroom (FIC), was specifically created to help support schools with elementary arts education. Since it began in 2012, FIC has been expanded to include schools in all three major school systems (Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County), as well as independent and private institutions. It is the only program of its kind in Alabama and was even recognized as an ASCA Community Arts Grant recipient in 2017.

FPCT’s legacy is ever evolving to meet the developing and changing needs of the Huntsville community by epitomizing innovation and creative thinking. If your child has an interest in acting and theatre, Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre is definitely a great place to go!
