We moms all need a break. Maybe we need a date night, or we simply need to get out of the house—even just to go to the grocery store (!!)—without dragging our babies out into this cold, drizzling rain we’ve been having. At the same time, we wouldn’t leave our children with just anyone.
Let’s say you’re fairly new in town and haven’t had time to vet your teenage neighbor for a babysitting job. Wouldn’t it be nice to find reliable childcare in the Rocket City without all the hassle? That’s where Adventure Sitters come in.
About Adventure Sitters
As a mom, I personally find it very reassuring that Adventure Sitters is locally-owned and run by one of our own. Owner, Audra Mann, grew up in Cullman and has lived in Madison since 2011. Audra has always worked with kids. She started as a babysitter, later worked as a camp counselor, and established Adventure Sitters in September 2017.
“I noticed there was a need here in Huntsville, and I started working through churches, knowing that a lot of families needed reliable childcare. Then I realized that I couldn’t handle the workload on my own,” said Audra. Adventure Sitters childcare providers are heavily-vetted contractors who undergo extensive background checks.
Audra said, “We make sure they’re CPR and 1st Aid Certified with car insurance and a valid driver’s license. We require a minimum of 5 reference checks from churches, other families, day cares, or wherever else they have worked. They must have at least 2 years of experience and be at least 18, although most of our sitters are in their 20’s.”
- Short-term care
- Long-term care
- Corporate events
- Church events
- Summer care
- In-home care
- School pick-up/drop-off
- Age newborn-15 years
Audra has a couple of nursing students working for her, the perfect solution for your family if you can’t get off work to stay with a sick child.
“We also provide childcare for church and corporate events,” explained Audra. “It’s a lot of fun when we have 50-60 kids all doing a bunch of activities!”
How it Works
Adventure Sitters are pros at matching families with sitters. Families fill out a form to describe their family and their needs. “We want them to match them together as much as possible,” said Audra. “For example, if someone has experience with twins, we want to match them with a family with twins. Or if they have a child with special needs, we actually have a couple sitters who are certified to work with them." Adventure Sitters can cover 24-hour time spans, depending on the needs of the family. If you’re like me, you don’t want your children to stay home all day. “We do adventure outings such as taking them to the library or the park.” said Audra, “And we’re working on partnering with other businesses for those adventures.”
Why I would choose Adventure Sitters over the Rest…
Audra is quick to respond by phone, text, or email. “We try to be as reachable as possible,” she said. She is very friendly and enthusiastic…a big qualification for anyone who wants to keep my child. And they’re not membership based, which is huge in my book!
